No More Gridlock in Washington
After years of stalled attempts, this week the Washington state legislature has advanced legislation designed to facilitate access to the polls, as well as giving localities more flexibility to adopt processes that will advance minority representation.
The state had been hamstrung by partisan fighting until this session. In a 2017 special election, Democrats took control of the State Senate and are now free to push forward on voting rights provisions that previously had been stalled.
Equality Rules is a non-partisan organization. We will support politicians and candidates who advocate for fair voting rights, no matter what their party. In this case, whether the Washington State Senate is controlled by Democrats or Republicans is not the end that we seek; it's that the legislature is now free to move forward on an important agenda the matters for all Americans.
We're glad to see the progress!
